What is a Contact Person's Job?

Contact people are rostered for the entire time that the station is on air. It is the responsibility of all Contact Persons to:

  • Put other people's programs to air with all possible care and attention to detail
  • Be the 'contact' between the Co-op and new people (via the phone and face-to-face)
  • Ensure that Co-op members and property are respected and cared for
  • Teach others how to make programs (technically and otherwise)
  • Learn how to use the equipment properly and to train others to do likewise
  • Be an active member of the Co-operative by:
  • making & listening to programs
  • participation on committees
  • participating in workshops
  • assisting and training other members
  • doing a fair share of contacting
  • serving on the Board of Directors
  • greeting newcomers and introducing them to the concept of active participation in community radio
  • opening and closing the studio buildings
  • switching the transmitters on in the morning and off at night
  • miscellaneous administrative matters (including cleaning & tidying, gardening, etc.)

If you are the first contact person of the day, you are responsible for opening up the studios, turning on the transmitters, and presenting programs. The last contact person for the day is responsible for preparing the studios for the next day and closing the station down.
